“So, do it. Decide. Is this the life you want to live? Is this the person you want to love? Is this the best you can be? Can you be stronger? Kinder? More Compassionate? Decide. Breathe in. Breathe out and decide”—Meredith Grey (via thatkindofwoman)
Just in time for A3C I received this promo version of the “Watercolor Sounds” crew neck! to rock over the weekend. Designed by "Ess Mckee", I’m dumb excited about this piece. They goal is to have these out and available for purchase by Christmas, if we’re lucky Christmas may come earlier. Ha. Check back here and I’ll be sure to keep you posted on the drop date. WCSMG is the Family..
The purpose of this new “blog” direction is that I had gotten away from what I really wanted to express & share, deliver. This is my amends, to divulge introspects into my taste & indulgences of art, culture, music & so forth.. coupled with a dosage of my perpetual awkwardness. That being said…
It seems that as of late I have been constantly blessed with an occurrence known as “artist proximity”. Artist Proximity is the phenomena of being linked to extraordinary, creative, and like minded artists through the cultivated relationships of other known artist. The Ref (The New Kid) is one such occurrence, (Ironically his cousin “lined” me up a few times in his living room and we gave each other that familiar look of having met previously but didn’t wanna speak first. lol) I had a chance to meet “Ref” a few years ago for a collective shoot of local emcees. Good friend and long collaborator CRSH (still known and naymebrand then) introduced us. After which we occupied the same space a few more times. I recall one late night in the parking lot of the Olive Branch for a show appearance that B had. Myself, Teron, Rell and Mase I do believe spent the next 4 hours politicking about this thing called “Hip-Hop” and our love for it. Needless to say when it was all said and done I had mad respect for this new comer. He went on to create “The Grey” (masterfully done) with CRSH and the Ref has been family ever since…
I apologize for the deep long intro (pause), but setting the premise is always an importance of mine. I wanted to lay the proper background before officially introducing you to The New Kid. I had the luxury more than once to spend some time in Ref’s home studio and bedroom completely covered in egg crates from wall to wall. (I have yet to ask him where he sleeps because the room in nothing but studio equipment) My most recent visit allowed me to preview behind the vail of his surging artistry as an emcee and not simply a producer or beatsmith. Ref’s inspired approach to music is one that resonates with my own, indeed a kindred spirit. Like most true creatives Ref has created a shape that holds no form. No box or label will or can describe what can only be explained through audio indulgence. I like that Ref sounds nothing like me(Jeary Sylves) or CRSH for that matter. A mixture that makes for nothing but perfect melding. Sound should always be created in our own image, a lot of artist tend to lose sight of sound and the tiny voice inside screaming for acknowledgment saying "Listen to me, and they will listen to you". For now here is the first set of visuals from The Ref, “CHIX”. Which is a fun track about the social complexixtes of being young and the mental strain that comes from dealing with females. The visuals made this record for me. Ref states “My goal was to somehow pull the whole message together”. Point advantage Ref, this was done craft fully and is visually stunning too. What I like most (beside the chorus) is that I barely know a single person in this video! hit the link down below for viewing purposes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odIDqmqCAR0
As the project nears closer to release I’ll find you all here again for my full dissertation. for now enjoy with love!
