My amazing friend Em (Emily Dag), who I haven’t seen since High School, came to my show last night & gifted me with this beautifully crafted piece of me. The picture is circa 2004 Drama Class I do believe. She told me a very heartfelt story behind the painting & the picture she had taken of me back in High School. I was brought to tears by her appreciation.
The quote written on the painting is from Assata Shakur reads:
“ Hip Hop can be a very powerful weapon to help expand young people’s political and social consciousness. But just as with any weapon, if you don’t know how to use it, if you don’t know where to point it, or what you’re using it for, you can end up shooting yourself in the foot or killing your sisters or brothers.
People are amazing & you never know who you’ll inspire in term who’ll inspire you!
